The Butler Institute Once upon a time in Guadalajara . . .there was an American prep school, founded in 1963 with 20 students in a tiny house on Calle Madero .The students and teachers painted their own blackboards,(made their own paint, in fact),studied at kitchen tables and chairs, and got excited about learning. The school grew, moved to Avenida Vallarta , added a primary school, sent its graduates to good American universities, and becamean important part of the lives of hundreds of students and teachers—some brought to Mexico by chance or choice,—some born in Mexico who wanted to learn or teach in English. Here are some names and pictures from those years. We hope you will use them to find old friends and make new onesamong those of us who shared that unique adventure. |
